Borotron® Family

A family of polyethylene shapes enhanced with varying degrees of elemental boron for use as a medical and industrial shielding material to attenuate and absorb neutron radiation.

Borotron® HM030 PE
Borotron® HM030 high molecular weight polyethylene shapes are enhanced with 3% elemental boron, which makes this grade suitable for shielding in nuclear and medical applications. The high hydrogen content of HMW-PE allows the material to absorb thermal neutrons, which are then absorbed by the added boron compound. For these reasons, Borotron® HM030 HMW-PE components are often favored for use in nuclear waste disposal and detection system, nuclear material storage and transportation, radiation therapy environments, and hot cell technology applications.
Borotron® UH030 PE
Borotron® UH030 ultra high molecular weight polyethylene shapes are enhanced with 3.0% elemental boron for use in extreme shielding in nuclear and medical applications. The high hydrogen content of the polyethylene allows the material to absorb thermal neutrons, which are then absorbed by the added boron compound.
